Here is a breakdown of how each of the 5 "C's" pertain to Transformational Leadership Style and how to integrate them into practice:


1. Clarity: Clarity is a fundamental component of transformational leadership. It refers to the leader's ability to articulate a clear vision and goals for the organization or team. A transformational leader provides a sense of direction and purpose, ensuring that everyone understands what needs to be achieved and how their individual efforts contribute to the larger picture. Building the skill of employing each of the 5 C's it is first essential to ask yourself as a leader how you fulfil your role of each component. This is accomplished through asking yourself pertinent, penetrating, questions. Be honest with yourself. Transparency truly begins with knowing yourself. Once you have established your perspective turn the questions to your team. This exercise will not only help you develop or improve your relationship with your employees but will also improve outcomes and drive performance.

When seeking perspective on Clarity ask yourself:

  • "How can I ensure that team members have a clear understanding of their roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations, enabling them to perform at their best?"

  • "Am I effectively communicating the organization's vision and goals?"

  • "Are expectations and objectives clearly defined and understood by everyone?"

  • "How can I empower individuals to make well-informed decisions?"

Clarity seeking questions to ask your team members:

  • "Can you explain the organization's vision and goals in your own words?"

  • "How do you see your individual efforts contributing to the larger picture?"

  • "Do you feel well-informed about the expectations and objectives of your role?"

  • "How connected do you feel to the goals and objectives we have set as a team?"

  • "What actions or initiatives can we undertake to strengthen your sense of connection to the organization's vision?"


3. Creativity: Transformational leaders encourage innovation and creativity within their teams. They recognize that new ideas and approaches are essential for progress and growth. These leaders promote a culture that values and rewards creativity, allowing team members to explore new possibilities and take calculated risks. By fostering a climate of innovation, transformational leaders inspire individuals to think outside the box, challenge the status quo, and find novel solutions to complex problems.


Questions to ask yourself as a leader:

  • "When was the last time I came up with an innovative solution or approach to a problem?"

  • "Do I actively seek out new ideas and perspectives, or do I rely on established methods and routines?"

Questions to ask your team about Creativity:

  • "Describe a situation where you took a calculated risk, and how it positively impacted the organization or team."

4. Confidence: Confidence is a key attribute of transformational leaders. They exhibit self-assurance, optimism, and belief in their own abilities, as well as in the capabilities of their team. This confidence is infectious and inspires others to believe in their own potential. Transformational leaders lead by example, demonstrating resilience, determination, and a positive attitude, even in the face of adversity.   • "Do I believe in my abilities to effectively lead and make decisions?"

  • "Am I comfortable taking risks and stepping out of my comfort zone?

To gauge your employees' level of confidence in relation to the vision of the organization, ask these questions:

  • "How aligned do you feel with the vision and goals of our organization?

  • "What specific aspects of the vision inspire and motivate you?"

  • "Can you share examples of how you have demonstrated confidence in contributing to our organizational vision?"

  • "How comfortable are you in taking ownership and initiative to drive the vision forward?"

5. Commitment: Transformational leaders are deeply committed to their vision and the success of their team. They demonstrate unwavering dedication and perseverance, which in turn motivates and inspires their followers. These leaders go above and beyond to support their team members, provide resources and opportunities for growth, and remove obstacles that hinder progress. Ask these questions of your team:

  • "What actions or initiatives have you taken to contribute to the organization's vision?"

  • "What support or resources do you need to enhance your commitment to the organization's vision?"

Reflecting on how they inspire and motivate others can help leaders know themselves more clearly and facilitate an open dialogue that fosters team growth.
